The India Series

Pencil Sauce recently completed a set of illustrations for Volkswagon Jetta Campaign by Mudra. These featured a series of illustrations about Indian states in mixed media. The sketchy flavour of those illustrations was still fresh in my mind when Inkscape 0.47 launched. (Download It!) This version has some pretty cool tools, my favorite are those that simulate a hand sketched feel.

Here’s an example from Inkscape’s Wiki.

It takes some fiddling to get used to, but once you get the hang of it… it’s addictive.

Sketch Dialog Box

So, here is my India Series. Don’t forget to read How I did it.

While the Taj and The Bharatnatyam dancer are basically ‘Sketch’ path effects, the SHivaji Illustration has something else. It has bounds, or handles… sort of like when an artist draws the rough frame for the form before he get’s into the details. It’s called Draw Handles, and you can find it under EXTENSIONS on the top menu. (Under ‘Visualise Path’)

I can’t wait to find some free time. I intend to draw a lot more in this series, so expect to see more of India.
